Remeber I took that pledge to give handmade gifts for this year? Well, today I would like to show you some pictures of my first handmade gift I prepared. So if you think you'll be getting a gift from me, then maybe you shouldn't read on..
It is a crochet pouch. I learned to crochet long time ago from my mom, just the basics. I don't even know how to read crochet patterns written in English, like all the stitch abbreviations and stuff. I'm more comfortable looking at diagrams, like how patterns are done in Japanese books, and just winging it if I don't get something. So far it's been working out. But maybe one day, I'll find that I've been doing it all wrong. Anyway, I already had some crochet books and some yarn that were collecting dust.. So I thought, why not?
I took a pattern that looked not too difficult and just decided to make a pouch out of it, with zipper, lining and everything. I truly was making things up as I went. It turned out to be more difficult than I thought, working with yarn + fabric.
I have no picture of the lining; it's too embarrassing to show. But I'm proud of the result because it shows I actually tried something! I buy many crochet books, thinking they'll be easy to do but I'm too lazy to actually try and practice them. But like I always tell myself, knowing you can do it is different from actually doing it.. It sounds so trivial, I know.
Hopefully, whoever gets this will like it. Better yet, I hope she uses it!
